Today I’m putting the finishing touches on the resources for the first module of my upcoming Rock Your Saturn Return offering, which focuses on values.
This offering may seem like a bit of a departure for me, and in some ways it is, but it is rooted in the principles that have always guided my practice: healing and growth grounded in relationships, embodiment and liberation for all people.
Values are not neutral. Culture is an expression of collective values, and white supremacy culture continues to shape the values of those of us who live within it. If we are to create a new culture, we have to identify the values we want that culture to be based in.
Knowing our own individual values when we have been raised with strong messages about values from the dominant culture can be challenging, especially if we find that our individual values are in conflict with the values of the dominant culture. This can be even more challenging (to put it mildly) if we are marginalized within the dominant culture.
In My Grandmother's Hands, Resmaa Menakem offers this: “Oppressed people often internalize the trauma-based values and strategies of their oppressors. These values and strategies need to be consciously noticed, called out as traumatic retentions, and challenged...These values and strategies then need to be unlearned, not just by the thinking brain, but by the body, through its ongoing relationships with other healing bodies.”
My hope is that the participants of Rock Your Saturn Return will find a space to explore the values that shaped them, identify their own values and build relationships with other healing bodies to unlearn the oppressive, trauma-based values of white supremacy culture.
We're getting started very soon with our first Zoom call, followed up by a deep dive into the areas of focus for each participant's Saturn Return, led by Intuitive Astrologer, Liz Gunn. If you're feeling curious about this offering, please complete the interest form at the bottom of the Rock Your Saturn Return page.
May we all have the support we need to shape the culture of liberation we are creating.
