“A disco ball is hundreds of pieces of broken glass put together to make a magical ball of light.
You aren’t broken. You are a disco ball.”
Heather Branham, LCSW (she/her)
The world tells too many of us that we’re wrong. Too this, not enough that. Not enough this, too much that. Sometimes these messages come from our families, and sometimes we absorb them from more subtle (or not-so-subtle) cultural messages.
We have some words for this experience:
Intergenerational trauma. Systemic oppression. Family violence. Abuse and neglect.
Gratefully, we also have words for the opposite of these harmful words and actions:
Love. Connection. Healing. Community. Solidarity. Collective liberation.
I’m here to tell you that you are not wrong and you’re not broken. What you feel matters. What happened to you matters.
Let’s discover together the parts of you that have been dimmed to keep you safe. Because your unique light deserves to shine.
“When we heal our own trauma, individually and collectively, we don’t just heal our bodies. By refusing to pass on the trauma we inherited, we help heal the world.”
